A Totem Pokémon calling for an ally in an SOS Battle
An marry actualization in an SOS Boxing
An SOS Battle (Japanese: 乱入バトル Intruder Battle) is a type of Pokémon boxing in the Generation Vii games, introduced in Pokémon Lord's day and Moon. An SOS Battle is a boxing in which a wild Pokémon calls for help from allies, turning a normal one-on-1 wild battle into a two-on-ane battle.
In the Generation VII cadre series games, once the histrion clears Ilima'southward trial at Verdant Cave, battles with wild Pokémon can turn into SOS Battles. Trial Pokémon (excluding Totem Pokémon and the Pokémon in Lana'south Ultra Sunday and Ultra Moon trial), Isle Browse Pokémon, Legendary Pokémon, and Ultra Beasts do not telephone call for assist. Totem Pokémon always call for aid, but use different mechanics than other wild Pokémon.
In Pokémon Ultra Dominicus and Ultra Moon, Pokémon that can only be found through SOS Battles will have an Adrenaline Orb next to the icons showing where they tin can be plant when looking upwardly their locations on the Rotom Pokédex.
Mechanics
At the end of a plough, a wild Pokémon may attempt to call for help if it does not already have an marry. If its call is successful, that marry will announced in battle.
When an ally appears, information technology is affected past any entry hazards and any of its Abilities that actuate when information technology enters battle (such equally Intimidate) will actuate.
If the player's Pokémon currently in boxing has the Ability Synchronize when the marry is called, there is a 50% chance that the ally will take the same Nature as that Pokémon (however, due to a bug, if the Pokémon with Synchronize was not originally in the first slot of the political party and moved to it during the boxing, the called Pokémon will synchronize to the Nature of the Pokémon that was originally in the first slot, instead of the Nature of the Pokémon with Synchronize that replaced it).
Totem Pokémon
In battles with a Totem Pokémon, at the end of the kickoff turn, information technology will always telephone call for assist. A Totem Pokémon's calls are always answered. Totem Pokémon only have a predefined set of allies they can call during battle (usually two); in one case those allies have fainted, they cannot be called again.
Totem Pokémon with ii allies will call a specific ally on its first plow, and telephone call the other ally if its HP is beneath 2/three (in one case the first ally has been defeated). If its HP drops below ii/iii before information technology has a chance to call an marry, information technology will call the latter ally get-go, then call the kickoff ally at the outset opportunity afterwards its other ally has fainted. Once one of these allies is defeated, it cannot exist called once again.
Different other Totem Pokémon, Totem Salazzle tin can call an unlimited number of allies, as can Totem Gumshoos US /Raticate UM during the rematch against it when attempting to render Ilima'south Normalium Z.
Brooklet Loma special Pokémon
In Pokémon Lord's day and Moon, in the leadup to Lana'due south trial at Brooklet Loma, the player has to battle two Wishiwashi. The second of these Wishiwashi will successfully call for help every turn. This Wishiwashi will even call for assist when it has a status condition.
In Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, during Lana's trial at Brooklet Hill, the player has to drive Wishiwashi downstream. In the 3rd lake in the surface area (the second that is role of the trial), both the Wishiwashi and optional Dewpider volition successfully call for help every turn as long as it does not already have an marry (even if information technology has a condition status). They always call allies of the aforementioned species. If the original Pokémon is defeated, the Pokémon originally called as an ally will no longer call for help.
Other wild Pokémon
In regular wild Pokémon battles, at the end of a turn, if at that place is only one wild Pokémon on the field, it may call for an ally. Sometimes, no marry answers this call. In Pokémon Ultra Lord's day and Ultra Moon, a wild Pokémon volition simply call one ally per boxing, unless the player uses an Adrenaline Orb. Wild Pokémon that have a non-volatile condition condition or are in the semi-invulnerable plough of a movement such as Dig will not attempt to call for allies.
The take a chance that a given Pokémon will telephone call for help depends on its species, past default being equal to its base telephone call rate (in percent).[i] Species with a phone call charge per unit of 0% (most Pokémon that exclusively appear equally allies in SOS Battles) never call for assist. The telephone call rate can exist increased by multipliers nether certain weather, with the multipliers stacking multiplicatively if multiple are applicable.
- The call rate is multiplied by a factor of 3 if the calling Pokémon's remaining HP is between twenty% and 50% of its maximum HP (i.e. if its HP bar is yellow).
- The call rate is multiplied by a factor of 5 if the calling Pokémon's remaining HP is below 20% (i.e. the HP bar is red).
- The call rate is multiplied by a gene of 2 if an Adrenaline Orb has been used in the battle. The Adrenaline Orb tin only be used once per battle and will fail if used repeatedly (wasting a turn without being consumed).
The run a risk that a call for help is answered by an ally depends on several factors, past default being equal to 4 times the species' telephone call charge per unit (in percent).[i] The answer rate can exist increased by multipliers under sure conditions, with the multipliers being cumulative if more one is applicable.
- The answer rate is multiplied by a gene of 1.two if the player'south leading Pokémon has Intimidate, Unnerve or Pressure level.
- The reply rate is multiplied by a cistron of 1.five if the wild Pokémon called for help on the previous turn and is calling again consecutively, regardless of whether the previous phone call was answered or non.
- The respond rate is multiplied by a factor of 3 if the Pokémon's most recent call for assist was non answered.
- The answer rate is multiplied by a gene of 2 if the calling Pokémon was hit by, and survived, a super effective move before in the same turn that information technology makes the phone call. Whether whatever other Pokémon was hitting past a super constructive motility, and perchance fainted as a result, does non affect eligibility for this cistron.
Within an SOS Boxing, the chance for the called Pokémon to be Shiny, accept perfect IVs, or accept its Hidden Ability increases with the number of answered calls.[2] In Pokémon Lord's day and Moon, after 255 Pokémon have been called into battle, the counter rolls over and these rates go dorsum to their default values but will continue to rise as usual after more Pokémon are called in.[three] In Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, this brake does non exist - the counter will stop counting at 255 and all bonuses will remain in effect. If a Pokémon successfully calls an marry, all EVs earned past defeating a Pokémon are doubled for the rest of the boxing (including those from Power itemdue south).
Chain length | Perfect IVs | Subconscious Ability chance | Shiny Rolls |
---|---|---|---|
5 | 1 | 0% | i |
10 | ii | 5% | 1 |
eleven | ii | 5% | 5 |
twenty | 3 | 10% | five |
21 | 3 | ten% | ix |
30 | 4 | 15% | 9 |
31 | 4 | 15% | 13 |

Weather-dependent allies
In sure locations, when Pokémon telephone call for allies, a special ally may appear if at that place is a atmospheric condition condition in upshot in the boxing and Deject Nine or Air Lock is not in event. This includes weather caused by moves or Abilities during the boxing. Castform can announced in whatsoever location where atmospheric condition tin affect the allies Pokémon can call, but bated from Castform, each location has a specific Pokémon that can be chosen in a specific weather (which usually occurs naturally there, though not e'er persistently).
If special allies can announced, they always have a combined 11% take a chance of appearing over allies actualization in the usual, species-dependent way. The table beneath describes the likelihood of special allies to be called depending on the location and weather.[one]

An SOS Battle in the anime
In Large Sky, Pocket-sized Fry!, an Alomomola appeared to assist Totem Wishiwashi during Lana's Brooklet Hill trial confronting it.
In Currying Favor and Flavor!, Totem Lurantis called a Castform to assist it during Ash's Lush Jungle trial.
Unlike in the games, Trainers in the anime are immune to employ two Pokémon at once during SOS Battles.
